Starting a Blog in 2026: 10 mistakes to avoid

starting a blog in 2026

For one, I’ve been in it for over a year now, and along the way, I’ve made my fair share of mistakes. I wanted to share everything I’ve learned, the mistakes I’ve made, and the ones others make. We all have our own reasons for starting a blog; some do it out of passion, and others might do it more seriously to generate income. There’s no right or wrong way you should approach blogging with a different intention than before. If you’re ready to learn, this article is for you.

1. Starting a blog in 2026 for money

If you’re starting a blog to make money, you’re likely to give up before you even start. I wanted to warn you because, in recent years, I’ve seen many creators try to sell e-books and training courses with misleading titles, leading people to believe they will start getting paid quickly. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s going to take time. The reason is to help and share. If your sole focus is on money and not on sharing and helping, you’ll give up quickly.

A successful blogger must be honest with you. From what I’ve read from honest bloggers, it’s taken them 3 years to start making money. Blogging is not a quick scheme or a get-rich-quick fix. If you want a realistic view, check https://www.cassiescroggins.com/how-i-got-started-as-a-blogger-and-social-media-content-creator/ It’s from Cassie Scroggins blog’s. You can also look at Blog Savy Panda, it’s an another blog post about a realistic way about starting a blog.

One of the main reasons new bloggers give up is that they don’t see results wdon’t 6 modon’t (which is nmodon’tby the way )

2. You don’t focus on writing more

Your Blog Posts Make Up 90% of Your Success

Your articles truly represent 90% of your blog’s succThey drive, build, and helpust, bblog your plahelp grow.

And I want to emphasize this, because many new bloggers spend months perfecting the aesthetic side of their blog (the theme, colors, layout) and forget what really matters: your content. Yes, a beautiful, well-designed blog is a pleasure to watch, but your content is what keeps people coming back. You can have the most beautiful blog in the world, but if you only have 5 articles, it’s going to take longer tit’s’s.

3. You’re not original

As a blogger, your authenticity is your biggest strength. Plagiarism is never worth it, and it’s easier than ever for readers to detect when a post is AI-generated or copied. But also, you needs to stands out from others and by standing out, I mean that your own voice is enough.

I strongly recommend not relying on AI to write the majority of your blog posts. I once took a course where the instructors encouraged using AI to speed up the writing process. Looking back, it was terrible advice.

Most of the people who complain about having no traffic are the same ones publishing AI-heavy content.

Yes, AI is fast. But detecting AI is fast too.
And when readers realize your posts sound robotic or generic, your credibility drops instantly.

Take the extra time to write your articles yourself; it will always pay off.

4. Starting a blog in 2026 = Writing for Others

Blogging is no longer about sharing your daily life or posting a stream of personal photos. Readers today want answers. They want guidance. They want value.

Put yourself in someone else’s shoes and write as if you were speaking to someone else.

Your blog shouldn’t be a personal diary; it should be about helping.

5. You need to update your knowledge:

Start a profitable blog from scratch

If you’re willing to starting a blog in 2026 the right way, forget about all of the old advises that you heard before. You need to update your knowledges. To grow your blog, reach more people, and increase your views… but you also need to protect your energy so you don’t burn out before you started.

Honestly, the first six months were extremely confusing. I let myself be influenced by everything I saw and tried to follow everything perfectly.

That’s exactly what led me. That’s motivation yes but that motivation needs a solid foundation too.

Perfection in blogging doesn’t exist, and consuming too much information quickly leads to frustration. All of those things that eventually leads to a burnout.

Be patient. Give yourself time. Grow at your own pace.

6. You only rely on Google for traffic

When I started, I was using an SEO extension because it was one of the things I wanted to explore in a training course I purchased, but I didn’t use it fully. You can’t wait on google to give you traffic. Most bloggers use Pinterest because if you create pins, it will stay forever on the platform and there’s a lot of activities on Pinterest.

7) You’re not patient enough

When I started blogging, I had to learn from the bloggers with more experience. It’s normal to make mistakes, that’s the way we grow. And, if you’re not willing to make those mistakes, well, that’s impossible. Blogging takes a lot of time, it’s not fun and easy as it was in 2009.

You have to not only loves to write but to treat it like a growing plant. The plant won’t grow at your own terms. The plan will grow if you’ll give it water, sun.

8. You’re not investing in Blogging courses

A year ago, when I decided to start blogging for real, I knew nothing about it. I wanted to learn everything from A to Z, especially since I had already started and given up before.

Do your research first to see if the person selling the training has good reviews. Be wary of titles that sound too good to be true and always check when was the last time the course was updated !!!

9. You Focus too much on results:

Many bloggers have a bad habit, and it’s detrimental in terms of wasted time. It’s the habit of constantly checking their analytics. Please don’t do that. Set limits for yourself. Believe me, you’ll waste a lot of time if you’re constantly analyzing your data. You’ll waste a lot of time, and at times, it will even demotivate you.

10. You compare your blog too much

Another important point I would like to discuss is doubt. Having too many doubts can be very counterproductive. Many bloggers want to please their audience so much that they end up following every trend, even if it means losing their own voice. Doubt eats away at your vital energy.

When you doubt too much about what to write, you risk losing the desire to write.

Sometimes I see bloggers on Reddit asking others what they should post, as if they were handing over their free will and voice to someone else. Doubt and perfectionism often go hand in hand, and if you let them take over, you risk burning out and eventually stopping writing altogether.

This post was all about my 10 tips for starting a blog in 2026.
