Fall is here, and really, the sun barely wants to show up these days. If you live somewhere sunny all year, I’m officially jealous. Are you struggling to recharge your batteries as a mom?

We all have our own ways to unwind when we’re totally wiped out. I want to share a few things that have helped me recharge in ways that actually stick.

It’s so easy to grab junk food when you’re running on empty (been there, done that), but you can try other things instead.

As a mom with ADHD who’s obsessed with all things wellness, I’ve definitely had my share of rough days. I’ve tried a bunch of things to help me feel better, and now I want to pass them on to you.

1) Wake up before anybody else:

When you get into the habit of waking up before the rest of the house, you can start your day slow and calm instead of running around like a crazy person in chaos.

For a lot of moms, nothing beats sipping a hot cup of coffee in peace while you’re still fresh and your brain isn’t already in overdrive. It’s honestly the best way to feel good and actually enjoy those first few moments of the day.

I’ve totally noticed a huge difference in my own mornings when I wake up early versus when I hit snooze and get up later. For me, waking up before everyone else sets the mood for a much less stressful day, and  I feel like that calm energy sticks with me all day.

2) Blood test appointments:

Seriously, if you often feel tired and stressed, yes, it can make things worse when the sun is less there, but also, when was the last time you had a blood test?

Before I tell you to buy vitamins, it’s important to rule out a health issue rather than just buying everything on the market. When you have time, make an appointment with your doctor.

3)Go for a walk outside:

When you’re stressed, tense, and can’t work out, go for a walk outside instead. Just being by yourself during the day can help you get back on track. Put down your phone and focus on yourself. If you have no choice but to take your kids with you, do it; it’ll do them a world of good, too.

4) Get as much sunlight as possible:

Believe me, if you’re one of those people who gets sunshine all 12 months of the year, you’re extremely lucky. Here, it’s cold and gray for 4–5 months a year, and that affects everyone, whether you’re a mom or not.

A constant lack of sunshine isn’t just bad for your mood; it’s also bad for your energy levels. So before the weather turns to snow and cold, go for walks and grab as much sunlight as you can!

5) Take a Break From Social Media with Lumina

Moms, let’s be truthful for a second. It is way too easy to fall into the scroll hole, especially when you finally get a second to sit down following a long day.

But honestly, fall is the best time to slow down, unplug, and actually pay attention to how you’re spending those precious free moments.

So instead of grabbing your phone every single time you get a quiet minute, try something that actually helps you relax. Maybe read a few pages of a book you love, sip on a hot cup of tea, or just take a few minutes to breathe and be present.

One thing I’ve been loving lately is Lumina. It’s this very cool meditation app that uses AI to create guided meditations just for you, based on how you’re feeling that day.

Whether your day has been totally overwhelming or you just need a quick mental reset, Lumina helps me turn those distracted scrolling minutes into a little self-care ritual instead.

6) Create your own sanctuary:

Fall is all about decorating, coziness, and the spooky season, so why not decorate the room where you spend the most time when you’re stressed? If you’re interested, I’ll be posting an article on fall decorations soon.

7) Don’t do too much:

If you’re feeling totally wiped out and at the end of your rope, give yourself permission to slow down. Do only what absolutely needs to get done, and let the rest wait. I know as moms, it’s so easy to pile on a million things when our minds are spinning, but you don’t have to do it all. Take it easy on those extra-tough days. You’re doing enough.

8) Find a nanny or housekeeper:

If you’re not comfortable asking for help, or just don’t have anyone around to lean on, hiring a nanny or housekeeper is totally okay. Sometimes you just have to do what you have to do. If you’re feeling totally wiped out, even bringing in a part-time nanny or someone just when you need it can make a huge difference.

9) Find a sport or exercise routine

Besides the sun, another way to blow off steam is to play sports or get some exercise, whether you’re doing it alone or with your kids. Staying active will help you get through the colder months more easily and better manage the stress and energy slumps that come with them. All you need to do is find a sport or activity you enjoy.

10) Rest when you can:

Start a profitable blog

As we head into fall, I want to remind you: you don’t have to be productive every single minute.

Sometimes self-care looks like leaving the laundry for tomorrow, grabbing your coziest blanket, and watching your favorite fall movie guilt-free.

11) Reconnect with what makes you happy:

When was the last time you did something just because it made you happy? Like a hobby, something you like just for you.

Between wrangling kids and keeping up with daily stuff, it’s easy to forget the little things we loved before becoming moms.

So this fall, I want you to make a little effort to reconnect with yourself.

Maybe that means baking your favorite pumpkin muffins, journaling in the morning, sneaking away to a warm coffee shop, or finally picking up that hobby you’ve put on the back burner. Whatever it is, let yourself enjoy something that’s just for you.

Taking care of yourself isn’t just a once-in-a-while task; it should be at least one hour each day. You’re not only taking care of your kids, but you’re also teaching them to love themselves. You are so much more than just a mom, and your happiness matters too. Those simple, brief moments bring us the most joy.

This post was all about my 11 tips for recharging your batteries during fall as a mom!
